It is great talking about our foam densifier. We appear to produce about 1000 pounds of EPS per month. I’m not sure how long it would take us to fill a truck, but I would suppose it would be awhile.
We purchased the FD-15 foam densifier in December 2013, and it was installed February 1, 2014. Prior to this purchase, we were disposing of our foam into the landfill along with our trash through use of a 40 yard compactor. In 2013, we had the compactor emptied 46 times, at an average cost of $250 for haul, tonnage and labor to pull out the compacted foam. From February 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014, we had the 40 yard compactor emptied two times! That was a savings in trash charges alone of $10,000 in less than a year! In addition, I sold the foam blocks to a local recycling company for more than $2,500 over that same period. I figure the labor to dispose of foam in a compactor is definitely less than feeding it through the densifier, so there is an added cost for that. I believe the recycling income covers the cost of the additional labor.
All in all, with the machine, all accessories including a 300’ 480 volt electrical run, and delivery and set-up by an AI employee, the project cost was about $40,000. The savings in trash haul charges alone makes that a payback of four years! Add to that the impact on the environment as well as advertising that we are a completely green company recycling all of our primary refuse products makes our decision to buy a foam densifier a simple one! After nearly two years, the FD-15 is purring like a kitten with very little maintenance costs. We couldn’t be more pleased with our purchase! We are preparing a video to put on our website to show how environmentally conscious we are at Fashion Furniture!
